How Being Nice Can Make You Healthier

Are you a nice person? Some of us tend to be kinder than others, and it turns out this may have something to do with our DNA, as well as our upbringing. Nice people sometimes get the stigma of being pushovers or being insecure; and while this may be the case for some of us, kindness can actually make us healthier. Check this out:

1. It May Be Our Natural Behavior

As kids, we learn morals and values that help us to turn into kind people. Our parents may tell us to be nice to our siblings, share our toys and say “please” and “thank you.” Our capacity for kindness can also lie in our DNA, according to a study from the University of Buffalo. Analysts in the study found that some people may be born with genes that give off hormones associated with feeling generosity and love. However, scientists also found that genes move in line with our upbringing and experiences through life.

2. It Can Make Us Live Longer

Being charitable not only helps those in need, but it can help us feel better and even live longer lives, according to ABC News. So maybe you should consider volunteering at a soup kitchen, giving money to your favorite charity or donating to Goodwill.

3. It Can Make Us Happier

Being kind to others is known to instantly improve our mood and we don’t have to make some huge gesture to be kind- some nice words can do the trick.

4. It May Pay Off In Business

Employees who are empathetic and more in tune with other people’s feelings may be more fruitful at work. This is because other people trust them more, they have better interactions and even get paid more.

Although none of us want to be pushovers, we can use our genuine niceness because it has been hardwired in us, feels better and can actually make us happier and more profitable in life.
